A Martyr’s Prayer

"I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit’s power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made.

I am a disciple of Christ. I won’t look back, I won’t let up, I won’t slow down. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure.

I am finished and done with low living, sight walking, smooth knees, colourless dreams, pained visions, worldly talking, cheap giving and dwarfed goals. I’m through.

I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, positions plaudits or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, top, recognised, regarded or rewarded. I live by faith, I lean in His presence, I walk by patience, I am uplifted by prayer, and I labour with the power of God.

My face is set. My gaze is fast. My goal is heaven. My road is narrow. My way is rough. My companions are few. My guide is reliable. My mission is clear. I cannot be bought, I will not be compromised.

I will not be detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in the sight of sacrifice. I will not hesitate in the presence of the enemy. I will not pander at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won’t give up, shut up, let up - until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus.

I must go until He comes, give until I drop, preach until I’ve preached everything I know, and work until He stops me. And when He comes for me, He will have no problem recognising me. My banner will be clear."
